Moussa Koita
is a multi-talented musician, singer, songwriter, composer and arranger from Burkina Faso. Born into a griot family in 1983, he began performing at an early age. His musician father Harouna Koita was a member of the famous group Farafina, and his mother Téné Sanou is a singer in traditional African ceremonies. One of his first mentors was the late Victor Démé, who taught him to play guitar. He has also collaborated with Sam Mangwana, Abou Diarra, Boubacar Traoré and many other well-known figures on the West African music scene. Moussa Koita has lived in France for the past 15 years.
"Aminata," featured on "African Acoustic," addresses the fears and challenges that come with the practice of arranged marriages. "Aminata, ho / It is said everywhere that the date of your marriage is close / One day I came back from my walk / I came to find a big crowd at our house / They were all happy and impatient / I'm so scared of arranged marriages / Aminata, she is my wife."
The "African Celebration" track "Ouaga-Bobo," is about Koita's love and homesickness for his country, which brings him a sense of familiarity, hospitality, joy and brotherhood that nowhere else in the world compares to. "I've traveled all over the world," sings Koita, "I've discovered things / I've visited many places / I haven't seen a place like you yet." The song's vibrant video clip was shot in his hometown Bobo-Dioulasso, the country's second-largest city, and in Ouagadougou, the bustling capital of Burkina Faso.
