Owen Chen
is a New York based guitarist, violinist, and bandleader, is a versatile voice in the New York City music scene. Known for genre-crossing projects (Eternal Wind), he fuses modern and traditional jazz with cinematic textures and contemporary influences spanning pop and EDM. He is a recording artist with the jazz label, Origin Records. A classically trained violinist from the age of five, Owen holds a Master’s in Jazz Performance from NYU, having studied under contemporary leading figures in jazz guitar, including John Scofield, Peter Bernstein, and Adam Rogers, and other contemporary figures such as Chris Potter, Ari Hoenig, amonst others. He also holds a Bachelors from UC Berkeley.
In NYC he has sold out jazz shows at The Red Pavilion, band-leading and arranging for the popular Studio Ghibli and Anime Jazz, and Lunar Frontier: Cowboy Bebop series, and maintained jazz residencies at venues such as Bar Next Door, Laissez Faire, and more. Owen has with additional guitar appearances touring in other genres such as EDM raves with Alex Kade (Le Poisson Rouge NYC, Catch One LA) . Owen has musical theater experience performing in New York’s leading theatrical venues, including 54 Below ("Broadway's living room") and Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater, the iconic Off-Broadway institution. A member of Jordan Khan Music Company, he plays in high-energy wedding dance bands and also performs for contemporary worship (CCM) services.
Eternal Wind Ensemble
Owen Chen leads Eternal Wind, a New York-based jazz ensemble that reimagines beloved Studio Ghibli, anime, and film soundtracks through modern jazz improvisation.
Drawing from the language of bebop, post-bop, contemporary jazz - and fusing influences from classical, world music, pop, and RnB traditions - Eternal Wind reshapes familiar themes into music that feels "intimate, restless, nostalgic and alive". Paris-Move praises Eternal Wind for it's "ability to build bridges between cultures while forging a sound entirely it's own", calling the music "immediately accessible while remaining remarkably complex."
Their debut album The Ghibli Collection releases March 20, 2026 on OA2 Records (Origin Records), featuring compositions by Joe Hisaishi from Studio Ghibli films. Featured in Downbeat Magazine's April '26 issue. Paris-Move praises the album's "cinematic quality, painting landscapes and characters through melody."
