Info zu Sumidouro

SUMIDOURO is Igor Pimenta's first solo album, a true memory archive where the bassist rescues the influences that formed his music. The album's name refers to the sinuous routes that water travels to search for wider galleries, following its journey. By counting on compositions from the last ten years, the musician draws this analogy as a way to symbolize the need to record these arrangements and compositions, opening the way for new paths and memories.

In this sound route, the composer faces musical stories that transport us to the folkloric universe of the heart of Brazil, sometimes with the thematic, present in "Lamentos de Mãe d'Água" or "Procissão das Velas", other times with the sonority, with harmonies and melodies, besides counting on the timbre of Brazilian 10 strings guitar. In other moments, the album assumes an autobiographical tone, as in "O Sonho de Lara" and "Brasilina, Chico e Zeize," which, by focusing on the most particular memories of his life, the composer reaches an universal theme, with melodies, divertimentos, lullabies and waltzes.

Igor reverences his musical influences, like in the arrangement of "A Sede do Peixe," which by honoring Milton Nascimento, the interlude connects to the sound scenery of Villa Lobos and Tom Jobim; and in "Quarteto para Tempo Bicudos," flirts with the urban aesthetics of Arrigo Barnabé and Vanguarda Paulista.

The colorful sound of the album stands out for its rich instrumentation, bringing to the compositions, aside the traditional formation of popular music, a bass clarinet, a bassoon, clarinets, string quartet and voices, enriching the arrangements.

Sumidouro is a record that tells stories without words, carries the listener through scenarios full of colors, memories and contrasts, and, just like the course of the water, leads us to broader galleries.
