Violinen-Pop in modernem Gewand. Überlegt und liebevoll inszeniert. Hannah Epperson legt mit „Slowdown“ das zweite Kapitel ihrer vertonten Studie über Zwischenmenschlichkeit vor. Die Wahl-New-Yorkerin Hannah Epperson veröffentlicht mit „Slowdown“ ein Konzept-Album, das mit Mitteln der Neo-Klassik und betörender Stimme Singer-Songwriting auf ein neues Level hebt.

Epperson beginnt furios mit dem Track „20/20“, der sanft anfängt und dann in ein noisiges Experiment ausbricht, bei dem nicht nur ihre Stimme an Kate Bush gemahnt. Wie diese erschafft auch sie mit Mitteln der Poesie sowie Literatur und ungewöhnlicher Instrumentierung fragile und zugleich bedrohliche Klangwelten. Ihre fein konstruierten Melodien drehen sich dabei um zwei fiktive Figuren namens Iris und Amelia, die sich in den Songs diametral gegenüberstehen.

Pop und Klassik zu verbinden, versucht Epperson indessen nicht mit billigen Mitteln wie auf Klassik getrimmte Cover zu erreichen: Sie geht einen spannenderen Weg. Ihre Songs hat sie für ihr Albumprojekt „Slowdown // Upsweep“ doppelt aufgenommen, es gibt jeweils eine „Popversion“ als auch eine „Stripped Down“-Version. Nach der Veröffentlichung von „Upsweep“ im September 2016, erscheint nun der zweite Teil des Experiments namens „Slowdown“.

Irgendwo zwischen Leslie Feist, Poppy Ackroyd und Stina Nordenstam hat sich Epperson also ihre eigene Nische der Ruhe und Resonanz eingerichtet. Mit Geige und Looppedal schafft sie es, einen knisternden Teppich zu knüpfen, auf dem sie ihre zarte und oft doch auch brüchige Stimme ausbreitet. 2018 geht sie auch auf große Europa-Tournee, bei der es auch einige Deutschlandtermine gibt. Der Termin in der notorisch ausverkauften Hamburger Elbphilharmonie ist natürlich bereits - "Sold Out".

Armed with her violin, loop pedal and voice, sonic weaver Hannah Epperson arranges musical landscapes without indulgence or over-saturation. As a solo performer and collaborative artist, she has joined forces with a versatile cast of collaborators across a spectrum of genres and disciplines. More recently, these creative explorations have included composing and performing for interdisciplinary film and dance projects across the country and in New York, where she now resides. Hannah's breadth as a collaborative and compositional powerhouse stems from from an eclectic experiential and educational background: from learning Appalachian folk tunes by ear with a cowgirl in Utah to travelling through Scandinavia and Europe as an accompanist; or from touring her solo project by sailboat with permaculturists to accompanying Flamenco dancers in Spain, before finishing her Honours Degree in Human Geography and representing Canada at World Championships for ultimate frisbee in 2015 and 2017.

The versatile and collaborative journey of this Salt Lake City born violinist informs the creative compositions she offers in her solo projects. Hannah's unique approach to composition and performance earned her one of British Columbia's Peak Performance Project awards in 2013 and international recognition as a powerful songwriter whose compositions weave classical emotion together with the raw energy of indie music. Her sound crosses genres and will continue to offer various levels of musical and emotional exploration to the same listener at different times.

Hannah Epperson's debut LP - Upsweep - was released in September 2016 as Volume I of a two volume exploration in bifurcated songwriting and production.
