Info zu Ralph Vaughan Williams: Folk Songs, Vol. 4

Dies ist die vierte und letzte Ausgabe der von der Kritik hochgelobten Reihe von Alben, die alle 81 englischen Volkslieder repräsentieren, die Ralph Vaughan Williams für Gesang und Klavier oder Violine arrangiert hat. 57 Lieder wurden bisher noch nicht in diesen Bearbeitungen aufgenommen. Dieses Album enthält 19 Titel, darunter 13 Weltpremieren. Bis auf vier wurden alle Lieder von Maud Karpeles in den Jahren 1929 und 1930 in Neufundland gesammelt. Nach ihrer Rückkehr verbrachten sie und Vaughan Williams einige Stunden damit, alles, was sie gefunden hatte, durchzugehen und die 15 hier vorgestellten Lieder auszuwählen - der Schwerpunkt lag dabei, wie es scheint, auf den traurigeren Liedern.
