In her New York orchestral debut with conductor Philippe Entremont, Anna Petrova was praised for her 'ultra-smooth playing style' [New York Fine Arts Examiner]. She is an assistant professor of piano at the University of Louisville, KY, holds a PhD in musicology from the Manhattan School of Music, and performs frequently as a soloist and chamber musician. The album presents the music of four composers: Sergey Rachmaninoff, Sergey Prokofiev, Alexander Scriabin, and Pancho Vladigerov. Three Russians and one Bulgarian, the music of whom spans a total of 50 years, from 1892 to 1942. 'The heart is an ancestral metaphor: throughout human history, it has been thought of as many diverse things, and always as things of paramount value. For example, it has been sometimes thought as the secret seat of courage or of intelligence; or as a hiding place for emotions; or as a breakable, fragile and precious object that we treasure; as a place from which sincere feelings emanate; as the locus of romantic desire; as the deep, summarizing content of a person - their kernel, their defining core... Also, in many languages, the word 'heart' comes from either the Latin root cor/cordis, or from the Greek root kardia. That is, Spanish (corazón), French (coeur), and Italian (cuore), to give an example, take the Latin root, while German (Herz) and English (heart) take the Greek one (kardia). But what is most important for my present purposes here, and what these two roots share amongst each other, is their connection to the Indo-European root kr, which has the original sense of 'vibrating.' Indeed, the two consonants sound like that when pronounced together, like a gentle vibration. Krrr.... In this very sense, too, a heart is a vibrating object, a vibrating, secret, treasured place - just like I wanted the piano and my playing of it to be in this album - a dear object that secretly vibrates with the sounds of my music.' Bei ihrem Orchesterdebut mit dem Dirigenten Philippe Entremont in New York wurde Petrova für ihre „super flüssige Spielart“ – New York Fine Arts Examiner – hervorgehoben. Sie ist Hochschuldozentin für Klavier an der University of Louisville, Kentucky, USA und an der Fakultät Musical Arts Madrid, Spanien. Petrova hat sich besonders als Solistin und Kammermusikerin hervorgetan.

Als Gewinnerin zahlreicher internationaler Wettbewerbe, darunter dem XI. José Roca (Spanien), dem I. Bösendorfer (Bulgarien), dem VI. Maria Yudina (Russland) und als Teilnehmerin des Halbfinales am Concours Reine Elisabeth in Belgien 2010 durfte Petrova bei bedeutenden Konzertserien auf der ganzen Welt spielen. Sie hatte denkwürdige Auftritte in Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), New York (Carnegie Hall, Metropolitan Museum of Art), Chile (Stadttheater), Monterey, Kalifornien (Sunset Center), Spanien (Palau de la Música València, Auditorio de León), in der Oslo Concert Hall (Norwegen) und dem Tianjin Grand Theatre (China).

Als Solistin hat sie mit Orchestern wie dem Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie (Paul Goodwin), dem Orquesta Sinfónica de Valencia, dem Virginia Symphony Orchestra (JoAnn Falletta), dem Monterey Symphony (Max Bragado-Darman), dem Louisville Symphony Orchestra (Roderick Cox), den Iasi und Timisoara Philharmonikern und allen bedeutenden Orchestern Bulgariens gespielt. Weitere Dirigenten, mit denen sie gespielt hat, sind unter anderem Jonathan Pasternack, Horia Andreescu, Bruno Aprea, Ramón Tebar und Francisco Valero–Terribas. Als leidenschaftliche Kammermusikerin ist Anna Petrova Mitglied von zwei preisgekrönten Ensembles: Dem Carr-Petrova Duo für Viola und Klavier und dem Iris Trio für Klarinette, Viola und Klavier. Als Musikerin hat Petrova Alben bei Naxos, Coviello Classics und beim Melos Label veröffentlicht. „Ritmo“, die spanische Zeitschrift für klassische Musik, hat das Album Novel Voices des Carr-Petrova Duos zum besten Album des Jahres gekürt, seine Aufführung der Rebecca Clarke Sonate für Viola und Klavier nahm die Zeitschrift begeistert auf: „Bis jetzt die beste Interpretation dieser Sonate.“ Das CBC hat das Erstlingswerk Homage and Inspiration des Iris Trios als eines seiner „Top 10 Klassik-Alben, von denen man begeistert sein muss“ bezeichnet.

Im Oktober 2018 wurde Petrova von den Vereinten Nationen für ihre Zusammenarbeit mit Flüchtlingen rund um den Globus durch das Novel Voices Refugee Aid Project des Carr-Petrova Duos geehrt. Sie wurde auch zu einer von Amerikas führenden „Creative Women“ ernannt und hatte anschließend einen Auftritt in der Sandi Klein Show „Conversations With Creative Women“.Von der Manhattan School of Music hat Petrova einen Doctor of Musical Arts erhalten, ihre wichtigsten Lehrer dort sind Horacio Gutiérrez und André-Michel Schub gewesen.
