Eric Clapton und der Blues – es ist eine lebenslange Liebesgeschichte, die den legendären Gitarristen mit dem Genre verbindet, und kaum wurde sie je besser beleuchtet als in „Nothing But The Blues“. Der Dokumentarfilm, 1995 einmalig in den USA vom Sender PBS ausgestrahlt und in der Folge mit einer Emmy-Nominierung geadelt, wird nun endlich offiziell veröffentlicht, und das obendrein in 4K-Qualität. Begleitend dazu veröffentlicht Reprise Records einen neuen Soundtrack mit über einer Stunde bisher unveröffentlichter Live-Performances, die 1994 während der Tour zum Blues-Album „From The Cradle“ mitgeschnitten wurden, Claptons Grammy-ausgezeichnetem, international vielfach Gold- und Platin-dekoriertem #1-Album (Gold und #6 in DE) aus demselben Jahr.

Im Zentrum sowohl des Films als auch der Audioformate stehen indes Claptons Performances von Blues-Standards und weniger bekannter Blues-Songs. Das Album enthält insgesamt 17 Tracks. Sie setzen sich zusammen aus den Highlights von zwei Konzertabenden im Fillmore in San Francisco am 8. und 9. November 1994, die im Rahmen seiner gefeierten „From The Cradle“-Tour gefilmt und aufgezeichnet wurden. Claptons langjähriger Co-Produzent Simon Climie hat die Audiospuren dieser Auftritte aus den originalen Multitracking-Aufnahmen neu abgemischt.

Die bisher unveröffentlichten Live-Performances auf „Nothing But The Blues“ bilden ein essenzielles Pendant zu den Studioversionen „From The Cradle“. Die daraus gespielten Songs („Motherless Child“, „Standing 'Round Crying“ und „I'm Tore Down“) klingen und wirken live komplett anders als im Studio.

Daneben enthält der Soundtrack auch eine Reihe von Songs, die nicht Teil von „From the Cradle“ waren, darunter Jimmy Rogers' „Blues All Day Long“ und Robert Johnsons „Malted Milk“ oder die Standards „Every Day I Have The Blues“ und „Forty-Four“.
