Info zu Life Is Something Special (Remastered)

The N.Y.C. Peech Boys were a disco/electro outfit led by Larry Levan and Michael De Benedictis. Larry Levan made his name due to a decade long residence in the famous Paradise Garage club, becoming one of the most respected DJs in the 80’s dance scene of the Big Apple.

One of the biggest moments of the New York club scene of the early 80s! The Peech Boys cut their teeth at the Paradise Garage during the classic Larry Levan years -- and this album has them working with Levan to forge a record of crossover club grooves filled with linn drum beats and DMX riffing -- all produced with a warmly soulful vibe that's classic Levan all the way through! The album's got a groove that mixes together bits of electro street soul with fuller, richer rhythms that are almost a precursor some of the mainstream house of years to come. Titles include a version of the group's classic "Don't Make Me Wait", plus the cuts "Love Kills Pain On Contact", "Life Is Something Special", and "On A Journey". Keith Haring cover, lots of positive vibes, and a lot easier to take seriously than the Village People!

"This is virtually an encyclopedia of N.Y.C. dance music--no microchips anywhere carry so much verve, sex, or grit. Only in N.Y.C., however, do people dance a whole lot to encyclopedias, and I fear that if "Don't Make Me Wait" didn't convert the great out-there then the rest of this is doomed to a life of obscurity." (Robert Christgau)

N.Y.C. Peech Boys
Larry Levan is one of the true Legends in the DJ culture.

He and "his" just as legendary club - the Paradise Garage - were so influential to the Disco and dance music scene that it's hard to understand today. Many writers and producers tried their new work with Larry at "the Garage", if it worked there - it would work everywhere!

Larry and the club meant so much to the music industry that a genre of N.Y. House music got the name - Garage.

Unfortunately Larry is no longer with us, but his memory and work still lives on and here's my tribute to one of the greatest DJ's of all times - Larry Levan
