Info zu Father and Son

Garfunkel & Garfunkel

Art Garfunkel Jr.
s the son of Art Garfunkel Senior – who wrote music history as solo artist and singer of the world-famous duo Simon & Garfunkel.

Art Garfunkel Jr. was born in New York in 1990 in the Manhattan district as the first child of Art Garfunkel Senior and Kathryn Garfunkel. He spent most of his childhood and adolescence in the USA. His grandparents came from German-speaking territories, so that he learned the German language at an early age and established a strong connection to Europe.

His interest in German Schlager and folk music awoke at a very young age. That’s why he often spent his holidays in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. After finishing high school, he went traveling and spent a long time in Europe. As a young adult, he got involved in various regional projects, appeared in different formats and shows on German TV, and continued to develop as an artist. For many years, Art Garfunkel Jr. has been actively involved in social causes, including animal and environmental protection, which has kept him on the move. In addition to his mother tongue, he speaks fluent Russian, Moldovan, and German, and sings songs in Russian, German, and English. He has been based in Europe for over 15 years. His life motto, “Watch your thoughts – they are the beginning of your deeds,” has influenced him since his youth.

In 2018 and 2019, he toured extensively across Germany with his father. Father and son performed in front of enthusiastic fans in numerous cities, including Dresden, Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart, Berlin, and Hamburg. In October 2021, his first solo Schlager album, Wie Du – Hommage an meinen Vater, was released and has since remained a chart success. As a perfectionist and passionate artist, he worked on this album for a long time in collaboration with top producers from the Schlager industry, creating a multifaceted and expressive work that was warmly received by his fan community. A second edition of his debut album, featuring many new songs, was released at the end of September 2022. His third album, and second studio album, Evergreen, was released in early November 2023. Art Garfunkel Jr. works closely with the leading music label Telamo, and his previous albums were produced alongside the renowned music producer Felix Gauder.

He is also regularly seen on TV and radio appearances, at music events, and in concerts. He has performed in various popular shows, including Florian Silbereisen’s Schlager shows, Immer wieder Sonntags with Stefan Mross, the ZDF New Year’s Eve Show 2021/22, The Beatrice Egli Show, Schlagerspaß mit Andy Borg, and many other entertainment programs. He will continue to perform with his father, Art Garfunkel Sr., thrilling music fans with his exceptional voice. From September 2022 to May 2023, Art Garfunkel Jr. toured with Bernhard Brink, Alexander Martin, Simone & Charly Brunner, Tanja Lasch, and the MusikApostel group. Die große Schlager Hitparade – das Original was a highly successful tour, visiting many German cities and attracting over 20,000 fans. Art Jr. always looks forward to live performances and interacting with the audience. “It’s always a unique experience to perform live and hear the fans singing along to the songs,” Art Garfunkel Jr. often says.

In November 2023, Art Garfunkel Jr.’s second studio album, Evergreen, was released, and it achieved significant success in the charts. Throughout 2023, he was on a promotional tour for his new album, making numerous TV and radio appearances as well as performing live concerts. From early to mid-2024, Art Garfunkel Jr. spent much of his time in the studio, working on new projects with his team.

In April 2024, Art Garfunkel Jr. performed alongside his father at a birthday gala honoring Clive Davis, held at the renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City. The gala also featured many other stars, including Barry Manilow and Carlos Santana. Additional performances, including one in Berlin, took place in the spring and summer.

On November 8, 2024, a new joint studio album by Art Garfunkel Jr. and his father, titled Father and Son, will be released, featuring wonderful duets by the two artists.

Art Garfunkel
Originally revered for his Grammy-winning, chart-topping songs and albums with partner Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel has broadened his horizons since the two split in 1970.

His solo debut ANGEL CLARE spawned the top 10 hit "All I Know."

His other solo albums include BREAKAWAY ('75; features the hit "I Only Have Eyes For You"), WATERMARK ('78; featuring "[What A] Wonderful World" with James Taylor and Paul Simon), FATE FOR BREAKFAST ('79), SCISSORS CUT ('81), THE ANIMALS' CHRISTMAS ('86), LEFTY ('88), GARFUNKEL (greatest hits, '88), UP TILL NOW ('93), ACROSS AMERICA ('97) and SONGS FROM A PARENT TO A CHILD ('97).

The late '80s brought two new challenges for Garfunkel: he published “Still Water,” a collection of poetry in '89 and began an amazing trek across America--on foot. Walking across the United States in 40 installments, Garfunkel wanted to slow down and see the country. "My goal was to feel my connection with America, one step at a time."

That trek was topped off by a celebratory concert at Ellis Island, where Garfunkel's ancestors had first stepped onto American soil.

Recorded for the live ACROSS AMERICA album and filmed for a Disney Channel documentary, the performance is testament to Garfunkel's status as an American treasure: classic Simon & Garfunkel songs like "America," "Homeward Bound," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)" and solo Garfunkel numbers like "A Heart in New York," "All 1 Know," "Bright Eyes" and "Grateful" all resonate with the passion and emotion of someone who truly appreciates his country.

In a three-star review of the album, Rolling Stone said, "The song's themes of reconciliation and transcendence suit Garfunkel's soul and lend his gentle virtues as a singer all the virtue and dignity of conviction" and Garfunkel is "Blessed with a beautifully ethereal voice..."

Now happily married to singer Kim Cermak Garfunkel, the couple was blessed with the birth of son James in 1990. James often joins his parents on stage, lending his vocals to songs like "Feelin' Groovy."

It was in fact James who inspired his father to record 1997's SONGS FROM A PARENT TO A CHILD CD, which features inspired renditions of songs by Marvin Gaye, Cat Stevens, Lovin' Spoonful, James Taylor and Lennon/McCartney.

James even joins his father on a version of Elvis Presley's hit "Good Luck Charm." In a review of the CD, the Los Angeles Times said, "Children will respond too, but this tender valentine from Art Garfunkel to his sixyear- old son James will especially resonate with any adult for whom parenthood has brought the joy of discovery and untold love."

Garfunkel has also garnered acclaim for his acting roles in films such as “Catch-22” ('69), “Carnal Knowledge” ('71), “Bad Timing” ('80) and “Boxing Helena” ('93) and has had his music included in films such as “A League Of Their Own” and the end-title credits of the Academy Award-winning “As Good As It Gets.”
