Der in Hamburg geborene Ferdinand Thieriot (1838-1919) hatte nicht nur einen gemeinsamen Lehrer - Eduard Marxsen - mit Brahms; beide Komponisten bedienten sich einer sehr ähnlichen musikalischen Sprache, die reich an Melodien und mühelos kontrapunktisch ist. Der Musikwissenschaftler Wilhelm Altmann schrieb: "Thieriots Kammermusik ist ohne Ausnahme edel und rein. Er schreibt mit perfekter Beherrschung von Form und Ausdruck" - wie die Werke auf diesem zweiten Toccata Classics-Band in ihrer exquisiten Balance von Tiefe und Schönheit beweisen.
