Info zu Adiu, adiu dous dame

Adiu, Adiu Dous Dame, a new digital-only recording by period ensemble La Rota, brings medieval Italian songs to life. Fourteenth-century Florence was one of the most important centres of music and culture in medieval Europe. Despite such setbacks as war, political strife, and the plague, art and music flourished, giving rise to such composers as Francesco Landini, Lorenzo da Firenze (Lorenzo Masini), Donato da Firenze and Gherardello da Firenze. The music on this recording comes from rare medieval manuscripts preserved in libraries in Florence, Paris, and London.

Sarah Barnes, soprano
Emilie Brûlé, medieval fiddle
Esteban La Rotta, gittern, gothic harp, lute
Tobie Miller, recorder, hurdy gurdy

Sarah Barnes
holds a Licentiate in Early Music Vocal Performance from McGill University where she studied with Jan Simons. She has performed as a soloist with the Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montreal, the Kore Ensemble, the Festival Montreal Baroque, and the Banff Summer Arts Festival. With Ensemble La Rota, she has performed at the National Arts Centre, the Indian River Festival, the York Early Music Festival (England), and for the CBC. Ms. Barnes is also an active choral singer having performed with numerous groups in including La Chapelle de Quebec, the Theatre of Early Music, Viva Voce and Ensemble Caprice. Sarah Barnes studies with Lyne Fortin in Montreal and will soon begin postgraduate work at the Royal College of Music in London, England.
