Showcasing the Versitility and the Beauty of the Guitar! Grammy® nominated classical guitarist Marc Regnier has won the attention and respect of critics, producers, and musicians for over three decades as a performer, recording artist and educator. This unique artist has been described as that of 'a master of his instrument' and 'a musician of intelligence, lyricism and subtlety.' Since his concert debut at the age of fifteen, Regnier has performed and given master classes in major series and festivals in Canada, South America and throughout America from San Francisco to several solo performances at New York's Carnegie Recital Hall. Mr. Regnier has had the privilege of working with Grammy winning and nominated engineers and producers in his numerous recordings. This is his first release with Reference Recordings
Regnier is joined on this album by world-class musicians and dear friends Marco Sartor, guitar, Volodymyr Vynnytsky, piano, Natalia Khoma, cello and Tacy Edwards, flute. Tempo Do Brasil is produced by six-time Grammy® nominees Marina and Victor Ledin, and engineered by multiple Grammy® award-winning Leslie Ann Jones, Director of Music Recording and Scoring at Skywalker Sound.
In Marc Regnier's own words: ' My goal was to include repertoire that demonstrated the various styles and moods of Brazilian music. It was also important to showcase the versatility and beauty of the guitar as a solo and ensemble instrument. Naturally when selecting classical repertoire of Brazil, Heitor Villa-Lobos' music is usually at the forefront. He is described as 'the single most significant creative figure in 20th century Brazilian art music'. The challenge here was to present music that is not over recorded, which is impossible when speaking of Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, Villa-Lobos' most famous piece and a must to include in this CD. Laurindo Almeida, Sergio Assad, Paulo Bellinati, Radames Gnattali and Baden Powell are all prominent Brazilian composers and performers, with Assad and Bellinati very active on the international stage today.'
Marc Regnier is currently Professor of Guitar at the College of Charleston, South Carolina, and lives with his wife, Jane, and their many cats.

Marc Regnier
was born in Florida and began studying the classical guitar at the age of six with his father, a now retired art professor. When Marc was fourteen, he accompanied the family move to London where he was introduced and began taking lessons with guitarist and composer Timothy Walker (former student of Narcisco Yepes). Immediately after his return to the United States the following year Marc gave his concert debut and accepted a part time instructorship teaching at Anderson College in South Carolina.
Two years later Aaron Shearer invited Marc to study with him under scholarship at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. After graduation Mr. Regnier moved to California where he continued to perform while studying with Christopher Parkening (former student of Andres Segovia) and Rey de la Torre (former student of Miguel Llobet). It was Rey de la Torre who introduced Mr. Regnier to composers Joaquin Nin-Culmell (former student of Manuel de Falla) and Julian Orbon (former student of Aaron Copland) which resulted in Regnier collaborating with both internationally respected composers. During this time Deutsche Grammophon President, Dr. Andreas Holschneider, heard a live recording of Regnier’s and stated that he “has a great talent, technically almost perfect.” Joaquin Nin-Culmell said “Of all the young guitarists I have heard in recent years, Marc Regnier is by far the most brilliant performer…he represents the best of the classical Spanish tradition.”
Marc Regnier has appeared as soloist, in chamber groups and with orchestra throughout the United States from Los Angeles to several appearances at New York’s Carnegie Recital Hall. He has performed and given master classes in Canada and South America including invitations to perform and give classes in Europe. He has frequently been featured on National Public Radio and BBC Radio with a recent performance celebrating Chopin’s bicentennial. Mr. Regnier has recorded for the Dorian/Sono Luminus, Musical Heritage Society and Naxos labels. His latest recording featuring solo and chamber music of Radames Gnattali and will soon be released by the Dorian/Sono Luminus label. In this recording Marc Regnier is joined by flutist Tacy Edwards, cellist Natalia Khoma and guitarist Marco Sartor. The project was recorded at Skywalker Sound with Grammy winning engineer Leslie Ann Jones and three time Grammy nominated “Classical Record Producer of the Year” Marina and Victor Ledin. This is the second recording that Mr. Regnier has made with the Ledins, the first being the critically acclaimed recording by Marco Polo (Naxos) featuring the works of Alexandre Tansman. Regnier has also recorded works by American composer David Maves (former student of Homer Keller and Leslie Bassett).
Marc Regnier lives with his wife, Jane Norrgard, and their cats. He is currently chairman of the guitar department at the College of Charleston, a position he has held since 1994.
