Info zu Georges Enesco au Conservatoire de Paris (1895-1899)

Pupil of a pupil of the violinist Christian Ferras, early on Julien Szulman became fascinated by the figure of his mentor George Enescu. Composer, violinist, pianist, conductor: Enescu’s multiple musical talents make him an integral part of the history of music in the first half of the 20th century. For his Doctorate in Musical Interpretation – Research and Practice, which he is studying at the Conservatoire de Paris in partnership with Sorbonne University, he has focused specifically on the period that Enescu spent studying at the Conservatoire de Paris. A coherent body of works for piano and violin, composed by or for him, was the obvious choice for the programme of this recording: his first two Sonatas (1897 and 1899), and two pieces that were dedicated to him, André Gédalge’s first Sonata (1897) and a short piece by Martin-Pierre Marsick, Attente (1900). This programme reveals the strong personality of the young George Enescu and the musical environment in Conservatoire de Paris classes at the end of the 19th century.
