Info zu Fryderyk Chopin (Remastered)

Nikita Magaloff was one of the first pianists to play after the end of the Second World War in Paris and in 1947 to give concerts in the United States. Among the numerous accomplishments of his career are: the first performance of Prokofiev’s Sonata n.7, the performance of Stravinsky’s Capriccio and the complete piano work of Fryderik Chopin.

In this album Nikita Magaloff masterfully interprets three great works and twenty-four Preludes by the composer Fryderyk Chopin: Op. 49, Op. 5, Op. 39 n.3 and twenty-four Preludes Op. 28.

Highlights Fantasia in fa min. Op. 49 belonging to Chopin’s most mature creative period; despite its name, this piece has a complex formal structure.

Magaloff is considered one of the greatest interpreters of the Chopinian repertoire of the twentieth century. This great pianist was recorded by Giulio Cesare Ricci for the first time in 1984 at the Goldoni theater in Livorno on the occasion of a great concert that Maestro Magaloff held with a program entirely dedicated to Robert Schumann. The concert was then authorized by the Maestro to become a first fonè album, an album that marked the beginning of a beautiful recording collaboration.

This collaboration materialized over time with 11 albums, the album we are talking about is part of this precious collection.

The Nikita Magaloff piano / F. Chopin album was recorded by Giulio Cesare Ricci at the Donizetti Theater in Bergamo on April 24, 1990. For this recording Giulio Cesare Ricci used tube microphones, the Neumann U47 and M49 and the Studer J37 2-track analog recorder (tube).

Nikita Magaloff
(1912-1992) was a Georgian-Russian pianist. He was best known for his espousal of the music of Chopin, and was accustomed to perform the complete piano works in series of six recitals. He was the first one to ever record the completed works. These recordings were innovative for their textual fidelity and unsentimentality. His interpretations of Mendelssohn are also striking, finding a vein of melancholy that is often missed.

His playing, however, underwent a change in his later years, becoming more passionate, daring and challenging. He remarked in an interview that, "at the age of seventy, I have come to the conclusion that only the sentiment and fear of death can induce an immoderate passion for life." His last recordings bear eloquent tribute to this "immoderate passion for life.”
