Benjamin Godard: heres one to rediscover! The Franck set, then the impressionists and then all who came along afterwards have thoroughly pickled him. He was part of a trend that did not stay the course, yet it left us a few gems, including a certain romantic tradition inherited from his teacher Reber, who in turn received it from Mendelssohn and Schumann. Godard (1849-95) wrote three string quartets, full of diverse, original ideas. The Elysée Quartet celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2015.
