"Nimrod 25 - 25th Anniversary Edition" enthält neben dem Originalalbum bisher unveröffentlichten Demos und ein Live-Set von 1997.
Vor genau 25 Jahren erschien „Nimrod“, das fünfte Album der fünffach Grammy-ausgezeichneten Punkrock-Ikonen und „Rock and Roll Hall of Fame“-Mitglieder aus Kalifornien.
Green Day begehen das Jubiläum ihres dreifach US-Platin-ausgezeichneten Werkes mit der Ankündigung eines besonderen Boxsets: Am 27. Januar 2023 erscheint „Nimrod 25 - 25th Anniversary Edition“, die neben dem Originalalbum eine Platte/Disc mit bisher unveröffentlichten Demos und ein Live-Set aus der Electric Factory in Philadelphia enthält, das am 14. November 1997 – einen Monat nach der Veröffentlichung von „Nimrod“ also – mitgeschnitten wurde. Neben mehreren Songs von „Nimrod“ enthält das 20 Songs umfassende Set Fan-Favoriten von ihren früheren Alben und Singles. Die Demo-Scheibe hält 14 Tracks bereit, darunter zwei unveröffentlichte Green-Day-Songs („You Irritate Me", das schon heute erhältlich ist und unten angehört werden kann, und „Tre Polka“), ein weiteres Highlight ist eine – bisher ebenfalls unveröffentlichte – Coverversion des Elvis-Costello-Klassikers „Alison“.
„Nimrod“ wurde ursprünglich am 14. Oktober 1997 veröffentlicht und erreichte unter anderem Platz 10 in den USA, Platz 31 in Deutschland und Platz 11 im UK. Die LP wurde angeführt von den Hit-Singles „Hitchin' A Ride", „Redundant", „Nice Guys Finish Last" und „Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" – allein dieser Song verkaufte sich in den USA 5 Millionen Mal. Von Billie Joe Armstrong als trotzige Ballade geschrieben, nachdem es mit seiner Freundin aus war, entwickelte sich „Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" zum Soundtrack für die einschneidende Momente im Leben von zahllosen Menschen rund um die Welt. Das Album wurde allein in den USA mit Dreifach-Platin ausgezeichnet, dazu kommen Platin- und Multiplatin-Auszeichnungen in diversen anderen Ländern.
