Info for A Love Brand New
"A Love Brand New" is the title of the new studio album (6th) by singer-songwriter duo Jodymoon. With this new album in their backpocket they return to the stage this season.
On "A Love Brand New" singer-pianist Digna Janssen and multi-instrumentalist Johan Smeets open up new musical possibilities. New territories are being explored, their warm mix of singer-songwriter, folk, pop, classical and roots has become more open, exuberant and extraverted.
The change did not come out of the blue. Major events in their personal lives (deaths, another house) forced them to put the recordings for the new record and the concerts on hold for a while. The delay was artistically more than worth it: Digna and Johan managed to translate the impact of their loss into beautiful new songs. The fact that they could set up their own studio in their new home has led to a tangible new dynamic. Undisturbed and without time pressure Jodymoon could explore new musical paths for ‘A Love Brand New’.
Jodymoon have won the public’s choice award of ‘The Grand Price of the Netherlands, the band toured in Canada, Spain, England, Germany and Italy and played as support act for Joan Armatrading, Damien Jurado and Tom McRae. The duo established their name in the Dutch music scene and got rave reviews for the ‘album trilogy’ Who Are You Now (2010), The Life You Never Planned On (2012) and All Is Waiting (2015). Musicmaker: “Above all there is that voice, which is very reminiscent of Joni Mitchell and a bigger compliment is hardly possible in my opinion” (). Jazzism: “Their pop-oriented roots music reaches an undisputed climax” (). Lust for Life “We hear a rich set of instruments and the bluesy voice of singer Digna Janssen makes a big impression” (*).

Jodymoon
It’s Jodymoon’s 15th anniversary this year and they celebrate this with a new album and a tour entitled: Firestone. The Maastricht (NL) based singer-songwriter duo has gratefully made use of the extra time in their own studio in the past corona year to record new tracks. Before corona they were already planning to make a real duo record, featuring guitar, piano, percussion and vocals. One that would reflect the live vibe. The result makes it clear that Jodymoon has not lost anything in terms of musicality and creativity in the past 15 years and that we are dealing here with two authentic musicians who have given their hearts to honest music.
Singer and pianist Digna Janssen and multi-instrumentalist Johan Smeets have released 7 studio albums since they won the audience award at the Grote Prijs van Nederland in 2008 with their warm mix of singer-songwriter, folk, pop and roots. They performed in Canada, Spain, England, Germany and Italy, among others. Their albums have all received rave reviews in the Netherlands and have also been released in Germany in recent years.
