Alicia Calabuig
Being the first one one of the instruments that most inspire me, since it is capable of representing masterpieces, the viola gave me the possibility of enjoying something that I love, such as playing in the company of other musicians.
It was in this way that my formative and professional path took me to the strings, leading me to try my luck in places like Alicante or Madrid. This transition was a life experience that marked a before and after, as great passions often involve overcoming difficulties of the same kind.
Faced with a scenario that was unknown to me, I had to face situations that called into question all the work I had worked so hard on up to that point. Expectations and pressures affected my vocation so much that I looked for answers in the real centre of classical music: Austria.
Salzburg was the place of choice, for it is without doubt one of the world capitals in this field, the birthplace of Mozart, whose streets constantly evoke his essence. There I had the chance to meet people from all corners of the world, but the nerves and doubts had not gone.
And with my bags packed, I met the person who changed my professional life forever. It was Professor Predrag Katanic, from the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität in Linz, who managed to reconcile me with my passion, being able to help me to find my way back to music, just as he had done before.
I trained with him for six years and from that moment on, I fell in love forever with the sound of the viola, its colours and the possibilities of making each note an expression. Fears were left behind and I was able to find myself again, with more strength and determination than ever.
So I returned to Spain to devote myself to teaching, and a few years ago the circle was closed, returning to the Real Conservatorio Superior de Madrid, where I studied, this time as a teacher.
A job that gives me great pleasure, transmitting this legacy to the youngest, and enjoying the wonderful pleasure of feeling the music inside me.
Jorge Blasco
studied with Guadalupe L. Castelo and Albert Nieto at the Conservatorio Superior de Vitoria, graduating with honors. Thanks to the legendary pianist Lazar Berman, he became a student of Galina Eguiazarova, with whom he trained in the tradition of the Russian school of piano for five intense years at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía de Madrid.
Masterclasses from professors Vitaly Margulis, Joaquín Achúcarro, András Schiff, Zoltan Kocsis, and, especially, Eric Heidsieck broadened his conception of music. This ultimately lead to developing an artistic vision that has not gone unnoticed and has been awarded in various competitions such as the International Competition “Pedro Bote” and the National Competition “Ciudad de Albacete,”—where he is the most decorated pianist in its more than forty years of history—the International Competition of Ibiza, the “Ciutat de Manresa” Competition and the Musical Interpretation Competition of Alcoy.
His artistic ventures have taken him throughout Spain as a soloist and above all as a chamber musician. He is currently a member of the groups Mirtos Duo and the Tetraktys Ensemble.
