A new collaboration between Skúli Sverrisson and Bill Frisell, recorded at EastSide Sound studios in New York. This duo album revives the intimate and profound dialogue that the Icelandic bassist and the impeccable guitarist from Baltimore established on the album Strata (Newvelle, 2018), with tracks such as ‘Sweet Earth’ and ‘Vanishing Point’. ‘Skúli built a framework that didn’t hold me back in any way,’ Frisell said at the time, ‘but which, at the same time, supported me every step of the way. I feel as though we’ve known each other for longer than we actually have. I feel as though this is the beginning of something.” For All Your Flowers confirms that intuition. Sverrisson a musician who has collaborated with artists as diverse as Wadada Leo Smith, Derek Bailey, Lou Reed, Arto Lindsay, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Laurie Anderson – wrote ten of the eleven tracks on For All Your Flowers, whilst Frisell (who released his dreamlike In My Dreams earlier this year) contributed the delicate ‘Baby’.

Sverrisson has carved out a distinctive career across various avant-garde genres, with a sound characterised by an almost tactile sensitivity, where every note breathes and the space between them matters just as much as the sound itself. His solo work, particularly the intimate Sería (2010; Icelandic National Music Prize), has already demonstrated his ability to create ethereal instrumental folk.

The release of For All Your Flowers brings the five-album series Newvelle Ten Collection to a close, with which Newvelle Records has chosen to mark its tenth anniversary. The collection is available on 180-gram vinyl. Each release, presented in gatefold sleeves, is accompanied by an original piece by the Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson.
