Biography Bjørn Marius Hegge Trio


Bjørn Marius
was born 11.09.1987 and raised in a small town outside of Trondheim, Norway called Elvran. Exposed to music from an early age, he began playing the guitar at age seven. He started taking lessons playing both the accordion and the guitar at the municipal school of performing arts in Stjørdal. He later attended Ole Vig Videregående Skole, specialising in music. Then he went out into the world to find himself, starting with one year at Birka Folkehøyskole (Folk College) in Østersund, Sweden. Then followed a year at Sund Folkehøyskole in Inderøy, Norway. In 2009 he moved to Trondheim, switching his main instrument from guitar to double bass. He now lives in Trondheim, working as a professional bass player and composer.

In 2012 he started his studies at the jazz department at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Here he studied under mentors Eirik Hegdal, Michael Duch and Erling Aksdal, among others. This resulted in a Bachelor Degree, giving his exam concert in 2016. He works with a lot of different ensembles both large and small, and his playing and writing consists of expanding boundaries of genres and other musical conventions. He favour writing particularly for the musicians involved, composing music tailor suited for each individual project.

In 2016 he formed the quintet Hegge, this group is made up by some of the finest Scandinavian jazz muscians active today, Jonas Kullhammar, Martin Myhre Olsen, Vigleik Storaas and Håkon Mjåset Johansen, together they explore Bjørn Marius compositions with curiosity and openness. And they recived a Norwegian grammy award(Spellemannsprisen) For best jazz album (Vi är ledsna men du får inte längre vara barn) In 2017. Bjørn Marius has been playing concerts all over Europe and has toured Norway several times with both own and others projects. He compliments in a variety of groups, underneath is a list of selected collaborations

Since 2016 he is a part of the Trondheim based record label collective "Particular Recordings Collective", together with Eirik Hegdal, Tor Haugerud, Daniel Formo, Oscar Grönberg, Else Bøe, Sigrid Stang, Marianne Baudouin Lie, Klaus Ellerhusen Holm, Matilda Rolfsson.
