Biographie Tor Einar Bekken
Tor Einar Bekken
better known as Dr. Bekken, is a pianist, composer and entertainer – and a veteran and stayer on the Norwegian blues scene. He has a major in music with a dissertation on New Orleans’ piano tradition, and based on this he has created his own expression that often mixes both jazz, blues and boogie woogie traditions. Dr. Bekken is also a lyrical ballad interpreter and is not afraid to mix folk into the music. In 2019 he was awarded Notodden Blues Festival’s Award.
The last few years Bekken has released a lot of albums under his own name or as Dr. Bekken, often with improvisations on piano, guitar or guitalele, a hybrid of guitar and ukulele. Last year he released no less than five solo albums in addition to albums with Mattis Kleppen and Arne Skognes.
Bekken has performed at major festivals in Norway and the rest of Europe, both as a soloist and as a musician for foreign artists. At Dark Season Blues he is playing the piano in Arne Skage’s backing band The Procrastinators along with doing solo work.
