Info for Miniatures

Glauco Venier
Following his graduation in organ and composition from the Conservatory in Udine in 1985 he decided to go deep into jazz techniques and took private lessons in Milan with Franco D’Andrea and attended workshops in Italy and in the United States, where he studied on a scholarship at the prestigious Berkley College of Music in Boston with the pianist and composer Ray Santisi.

He soon attracted attention as a semi-finalist in International Jazz Competitions like the "Martial Solal" in Paris and the "Thelonious Monk" in Washington, where his talent had been appreciated by Martial Solal, Tomy Flanagan, Horace Silver, Ahmad Jamal, Walter Bishop, Barry Harris and Hal Galper.

In 1990 he founded his own trio with which he published Faces in 1995 and L’Insium in 1997, and won the First Prize at Vienne International Competition of Jazz Groups in France the same year.

Glauco Venier has performed in several European countries and in USA and has collaborated with some of the most outstanding musicians like Kenny Wheeler, Lee Konitz, Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu Joey Baron, Nguyên Lê, Gabriele Mirabassi, Massimo Urbani, Gianni Baso, Valery Ponomarev, George Garzone, Hal Crook, Chris Speed, Matt Garrison, Jack Walrath, Stefano Di Battista, Falvio Boltro, etc.

He now teaches piano jazz at the Conservatory of Trieste and jazz composition and interpretation at the Musical Institute in Gorizia. He is one of the founder of the Cultural Association "Musiche Insieme" in Udine with the intention of developing and improving the knowledge of modern music.

He broadcast for the Italian RAI and for the Slovenian and Croatian radio-televisions.

Two recordings have been released recently: Ides of March in duo with the Lee Konitz, sealing a several years work with the American saxophone player, and Gorizia for jazz band, string quartet and the participation of Kenny Wheeler.
