Alfredo Franco wurde 1967 in Turin geboren und beschäftigte sich in seiner Jugend mit nichtklassischer Musik, bevor er sich mit der klassischen Gitarre beschäftigte. Anschließend absolvierte er ein weiterführendes Studium der historischen und kritischen Bereiche am Institut für Kunst, Musik und Theater der Universität Turin. Später gab er die Konzerttätigkeit als Interpret auf und konzentrierte sich stattdessen auf die Komposition. Sein mittlerweile produktives klassisches Gitarrenspiel wurde von bedeutenden Interpreten wie Cristiano Porqueddu gut aufgenommen und zunehmend auf der Bühne und im Studio aufgeführt.

Dieses Set mit drei Alben bietet einen breiten Querschnitt von Francos Sologitarrenmusik. Porqueddu hat kurze Kommentare zu einigen der vielen, vielfältigen Kompositionen abgegeben, die für viele Zuhörer neu sein werden. Ein gebleichter Septemberhimmel: Mehrere kurze Episoden, die plötzliche Vorahnungen hervorrufen. »A Night's Tale« verfügt über einen rasanten, kantigen Mittelteil, der zwischen einem traumhaften Anfang und einem Ende liegt. Alphabetical Portraits stellt konzeptionell sieben Komponisten dar, indem es die Buchstaben ihrer Nachnamen mit Noten der chromatischen Tonleiter verknüpft. Inezie deliziose ist eine Sammlung von Miniaturalbumblättern, die die Frivolität einer imaginären Vergangenheit ankündigen. Fantasie Nr. 7 ist eine kontrapunktische Hommage an die Vihuelisten der Renaissance. Il flauto nel bosco – Omaggio a Grazia Deledda: eine Sonatine basierend auf der berühmten Kurzgeschichtensammlung des Nobelpreisträgers aus Sardinien. La regina delle tenebre – Su un racconto di Grazia Deledda ist von einer gleichnamigen Kurzgeschichte inspiriert, ebenfalls von der sardischen Autorin. La Guitarra Callada – Homage to Frederic Mompou versucht, die Atmosphären des katalanischen Komponisten zu vermitteln. »Quaderno di aprile« ist ein minimalistisches Tagebuch, das fast zwanghaft über ein paar Tage im April geschrieben wurde. Mirando un cuadro de Goya ist eine mögliche Interpretation des Pavo muerto des Malers. Microsuite soll eine Einführung in zeitgenössische Musiksprachen bieten. Petite Suite mécanique ehrt drei Gitarristen aus verschiedenen Epochen: Robert de Visée, Miguel Llobet und Leo Brouwer. Sette aforismi: kurze, spärliche Studien zu Klangfarbe und Farbe. Sonatina autunnale liegt irgendwo zwischen Manuel Ponce und Alfredo Casella. Sonatina estiva ist eine Hommage an Carlo Carrà und seine Gemälde von Hütten am Meer. Tarreghiana: ein Thema und Variationen basierend auf Tárregas berühmtem Präludium in a-Moll. Wintergarten ist ein Abschiedsspaziergang in einem schumannesken Wintergarten, der an Choräle und Variationen erinnert.

Throughout the artistic world, Cristiano Porqueddu is highly praised and recognised as one of the major interpreters of the 20th and 21st century guitar music in the contemporary scene. Critics have labeled him as “a reference point for the new generations of musicians”.

Porqueddu began his studies by following his father’s teachings. After having obtained high marks in a specialisation course with Angelo Gilardino at the Accademia Internazionale Superiore di Musica “Lorenzo Perosi”, he is now involved in an international artistic activity that encompasses concerts, discography and music composition.

As his career progressed, he has received awards in international guitar competitions. His concert activity takes place regularly between Europe and the United States and includes performances in some of the most important concert halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York or the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory of Moscow.

His recording catalog is comprised of 30 releases, over 65 CDs released by major label Brilliant Classics, which also has a worldwide distribution agreement with Porqueddu. There rave reviews for his record releases are countless.

In his honour, many solo guitar and orchestra compositions have been dedicated to him. These musical compositions have been written by a vast amount of famous composers, such as Angelo Gilardino, Leo Brouwer, Dusan Bogdanovic, Mark Delpriora, Franco Cavallone, etc.
