Info for In Breath

In Breath was born out of the desire to bring about internal peace in a difficult world. The album embraces melancholy, but transcends into states of lightness, balance and harmony. “The album was designed in a way of gently lifting the mood of the listener, to move away from thoughts, and to bathe in feeling. I believe all feelings are beautiful and should be felt. They make us alive, make us human and are great teachers.”

Many of the pieces were composed and recorded at dawn, where Luke found himself most at peace and most creative, able to tune into and express his emotional states. Nature served as a big inspiration for the album, “I love finding correlations between nature and man, and the realisation that we are one and the same. The movements of water in rivers, streams and oceans, of clouds, of swaying trees, of changes in season, of the transition between night and day all spoke as an analogy of shifts and movements in the human mind, which served as an inspiration for many of these pieces. It is in nature that I feel most connected and balanced and I endeavoured to reflect this in the music.”

In Breath was written and recorded in contrasting locations, between the hustle and bustle of the outskirts of London and the peaceful and beautiful mountain ranges and forests of New Zealand. In Breath was recorded on three pianos with different personalities, placing felt, cotton and paper between the hammers and strings to create unique and softer tones from the piano for relaxed atmospheres.
