Sich an Elliott Carter zu wagen heißt, sich konzentrieren zu wollen. Die Musik – und vor allem die Kammermusik – dieses Komponisten ist streng, und wenn auch voller Gesanglichkeit, so doch immer aufs Genaueste durchdacht und abgezirkelt. Wenn man da als Interpret nicht aufpasst, wird das Ganze schnell staubtrocken.

Nicht so beim Johannes Martens Ensemble, das hier einen Querschnitt durch Carters Kammermusik präsentiert. Die sieben Musiker mischen, in ganz unterschiedlichen Zusammensetzungen, die spröde Präzision Neuer Musik mit einer geradezu romantischen Spiel- und Farbfreude, was die Werke mal impressionistisch, mal fast jazzig schimmern lässt – hört man selten! Johannes Martens starker, angenehm angerauter Celloton spielt dabei oft die Hauptrolle. Zwitschernde Bläser und das satt und basslastig abgemischte Klavier sorgen für wohlgesetzte Kontraste. Neue Musik auf Genießer-Niveau!

Johannes Martens is a member of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and has also been guest principal cellist of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the Norwegian Opera Orchestra. Tom Ottar Andreassen is principal flautist of the The Norwegian Radio Orchestra and The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. Joachim Kjelsaas Kwetzinsky is a much sought-after concert pianist and chamber musician. Andjei Maevski is principal clarinettist of The Norwegian Opera Orchestra. Anders Kjellberg Nilsson is widely recognised as one of Norway's most promising young violinists. Anders Rensvik is a member of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Yi Yang is a concertmaster of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.
