For his first album for Deutsche Grammophon, the French mezzo-soprano Gaëlle Arquez demonstrates the full extent of his talent through a program that honors the French repertoire. A journey through the history of French opera that shows all the talent of Gaëlle Arquez, from baroque to romantic music. Accompanied by the Orchester National Bordeaux Aquitaine under the direction of Paul Daniel, Gaëlle Arquez presents "Burning Flame". Edouard Brane, Director Artist Deutsche Grammophon France.

By choosing to title and his first album for the famous label Deutsche Grammophon, the French mezzo-soprano Gaëlle Arquez intends to share with as many his passion for French opera, but mostly embody the most contrasting female characters of the opera, namely the most torn between their Duty and Love. A title that sums up this consuming passion for opera.

On Malagasy origin of his mother, Gaëlle Arquez spent two years in Senegal before flying to his 9 years in Ivory Coast. There she discovered the piano at the age of 7 years she practiced throughout her childhood. The song of revelation will come to 15 years in a concert that will open the doors of lyric music. A real passion for singing she endorsed and will not leave to become the mezzo-soprano already acclaimed throughout Europe, say soprano falcon, characterized by its powerful dark voice in low register, extended and sound.

With Paul Daniel and the Orchester National Bordeaux Aquitaine, Gaëlle Arquez has found ideal partners sharing both their love for the baroque and French romantic music. A collective energy that is felt throughout the recording made at the Auditorium of the Opera of Bordeaux in May 2017 under the artistic direction of Anna Barry.

Gaëlle Arquez
French mezzo-soprano Gaëlle Arquez is one of the rising stars of the opera world. Nominated “Révélation Lyrique” at the “Victoires de la Musique 2011”, she made a noted debut in the title role of the new production La Belle Helene at the the Théâtre du Châtelet and is scheduled to sing the title roles of Carmen, Xerses, Pelleas et Mélisande and Armide.

After 15 years study in piano and a bachelor degree in musicology, Gaëlle Arquez graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. Throughout her studies she gave various recitals worldwide, including the Teatro Marcello in Rome, the Salle Pleyel as part of the series «Prélude au Concert », the Louvre, and the Musashimo Cultural Foundation of Tokyo.

The young mezzo-soprano made her debut at the Opéra de Paris in Don Giovanni (Zerlina) under the direction of Philippe Jordan and directed by Michael Haneke. She has been invited to Opera de Lille (Massenet’s Cendrillon), again to Opera de Paris (Falstaff and L’Incoronazione di Poppea), to Oper Frankfurt (Teseo and L’Incoronazione di Poppea), to Theater an der Wien (Idomeneo), to Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse (Castor et Pollux), and to the Bayerische Staatsoper (Falstaff and Così fan tutte).

More recently, she sang the role of Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel) at la Monnaie and Idamante in Idomeneo under the direction of René Jacobs at Theater an der Wien, a production which will be given at the Mostly Mozart Festival New York in 2016.

In concert, Gaëlle Arquez sang the title role of Cenerentola at the Beaune Festival and the Poème de l’Amour de la Mer de Chausson under the direction of Louis Langrée at Theatre des Champs-Élysées and the Conception in L’Heure Espagnole with the Bayerische Rundfunk.

Highlights in the 2015-2016 season include her return to Opera de Paris and Frankfurt Opera for a new production Radamisto. She then made her debut at Komische Opera Berlin, “Castor et Pollux”. In October 2016, Gaëlle makes her debut at the Vienna Staatsoper under the direction of Marc Minkowski singing the title role of a new production of Gluck’s Armide.
