'Steve Reich ist einer der einflussreichsten Komponisten unserer Zeit. Sein Minimalismus beeinflusste Rockmusik und die Soundtracks von Hollywood' (Zeit.de). In diesem Jahr feiert der Pionier der Minimal Music seinen 80. Geburtstag, was das MDR Sinfonieorchester unter der Leitung von Kristjan Järvi als Anlass wählte, um seinen ehemals 'Composer in Residence' mit einem Doppelalbum zu würdigen. Der erste Teil des Doppelalbums besteht aus Live-Aufnahmen von 'Duet', das Reich zu Ehren des 80. Geburtstags von Sir Yehudi Menuhin komponiert hatte, 'Clapping Music' (aufgeführt von Reich und Järvi persönlich), sowie 'The Four Sections'. Auf dem zweiten Teil sind die beiden Weltersteinspielungen 'Daniel Variations' sowie 'You Are (Variations)', die ursprünglich als Ensemblefassungen komponiert wurden und hier erstmals in Orchesterversionen mit dem MDR Rundfunkchor erklingen.
