Info for Contemporaries of the Strauss Family, Vol. 3

The music of the Strauss family is justifiably famous, but many other talented composers were producing popular music of comparable quality in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Drawn from a unique collection of original archive material compiled by The Johann Strauss Society of Great Britain, much of which has been reconstructed or orchestrated by John Georgiadis, this, the first of two volumes, presents world première recordings of works by many undeservedly forgotten central European light music composers.

Our vast, complete Johann Strauss II Edition and numerous titles dedicated to the Strauss family on the Marco Polo label stand as uniquely monumental and significant resources, keeping alive a musical era of joyous entertainment and the glamour of the ballroom. Compiled by The Johann Strauss Society of Great Britain to celebrate their 50th Anniversary, the sheer wealth of this album's stylishness and novelty will prove irresistible to the many fans of this era. The many reconstructions and new orchestrations made by conductor John Georgiadis lend a pioneering feel to this release, which will be followed by an equally collectable second volume in July 2015.

„The Czech orchestra handles all this music very well and the program works as it moves through a variety of composers and pieces, all with musical threads that connect them to the height of Viennese ballrooms and a more glorious fin de siècle era. This is an infectious set of pieces that bodes well for the forthcoming second volume!“ (Steven A. Kennedy, Cinemusical)
